SO MUCH has happened since i last updated you, oh loyal blog.
for starters, i graduated college. !!!! i'm sitting here in the vicinity of my diploma in my little sister's bedroom in a house that is no longer the residence on 68 pitt street, it's my mother's. in greenville. we'll get to that in a minute. onto the next topic of discussion:
joseph is married! he was absolutely striking at his nuptials as you can tell, and the week preceding the big event was a great time to spend more days with the new addition to our family, (his new wifey.) as well as some quality time with the older brother before he was officially a husband.
oh, and... I GOT A JOB! (well, actually two jobs.) one is part time, it's a grantwriting position for a private firm out of asheville that mostly works with rural health organizations in north carolina. and i can essentially do my work from anywhere in the country, which is a good thing, seeing as i took on a full time position two days after i accepted the part time grantwriting one. but, while i planned on spending my summer writing grants from the comforts of a paid-for room in greenville with the smell of my mother's neverending cooking lingering in the air, alas, i am moving. yet again. to columbia. but i'm so stoked to be employed, full time, with two jobs that are completely relevant to my career and really essential to my resume building blocks.
and as for the last bit of news, i left charleston.
i don't know if it's for good, or where my life is going to take me, but it's not back to the holy city. just yet. there isn't a minute that goes by that i don't miss the family i made for myself down there, the girls who were my lifelines, the men who made my heart beat for the four years i spent in that coastal community, and the places that were familiar and home. but, i knew staying there meant my savings account going quickly down the drain and a continuous whiskey brigade, so i had to exit while i still could. don't get me wrong, i could've stayed there forever. many do. but knowing me, and knowing what i needed to get done in my life at that exact moment, i knew there wasn't where it was going to happen. but, at the same time, it's always good to know that the people and places will still be there when i need a great escape from the real world, back to neverneverland. because god only knows, working two jobs in a new town, and adjusting to a completely different life than i was used to, might mean a need to go to a city where the people are familiar and the streets are a solved riddle.
i miss the ocean, i miss the bar i called home, i miss the coffee/lunch dates, the happy hours, the last minute runs to urban outfitters, the people.
but i think i might be able to find another place for myself to call home, just like the city i just left behind. hell, i hope so, or else i'll lose my sanity. but i'll never forget charleston, it was the first place that made me feel like i was a part of it. and i'll always be thankful to that town for that exact reason.
anyways, i'm getting all sappy now. as you can see, i included some recent pictures of life as i knew it, a brother who's now a groom, the girls who were once a part of the house where i lived, and the people who are my family. (you know who you are.) but for now, i'm going to curl up under the covers in the old house in greenville beside the one thing that hasn't left my side through all of this:
